Cyber Attack is a new form of Invasion and a Weapon of modern Warfare

       We have heard about the traditional methods of war during the era of Kings. In due course of time, the countries around the world focused on rapid Industrialization, Globalization to improve their position through economic activities. This triggered an aspiration for the countries to enjoy the supremacy in the race to achieve the status of undisputed position as leader; it was quite evident during arms race between Russia and its adversary USA. There has always been a kind of formation of the allies and blocks to threaten each other to manifest their stronghold and Military capabilities.

      We have learnt about the history, more specifically the ramifications of the war, destruction, homicide and bloodbath. To avert the recurrence of wars and usage of highly destructive nuclear weapons, UNO was formed to resolve International issues. There has always been an emphasis on peace and respect for the sovereignty of each of the countries across the globe. At times, there has been instance of breach of the international law by encroaching territories of neighbours  thereby paving the way for wars, affecting millions of people, and its ripple impact on the ecosystem as whole.

      We are now witnessing a new threat in the form of hacking and cyber war. There are experts indulging in invasion on Digital channels to disrupt and to create chaos against other states, corporate, etc., to show their prowess. The bitter truth of these deeds are hard to digest for simple reason that there have been evidences of state indulging in such heinous acts. The motivation and intent of these acts are not fully determined, although, it’s primarily to acquire the intelligence and intellectual properties.

      Scientists and Entrepreneurs across the globe on the other side are relentlessly trying to discover and invent new technologies to ease the life of human beings. Contrarily, there are extremists utilizing these technologies for detrimental purposes on the society to uphold their insane ideologies. There is one specific example of Sony Corporation being the recent victim of hackers and shutting down their computer system to steal the confidential information for ominous goals. There in an indication that this act is triggered by North Korea to trade off for deterring the release of the movie “The interview”. It is touted that the plot of the movie is a kind of lampooning on the atrocities of North Korean leader and an attempt to assassinate him in the movie. This recent development has garnered the attention of the world to seriously think about the cyber attacks.

 In the past, the hacking of Associated Press twitter handle and posting reckless messages created havoc on Social media which had implications on the economy and political environment

    There must be an alliance from the corporate entities and sovereign states across globe to combat this menace of cyber attack through highly concerted efforts, to crackdown on these perpetrators and to bring them to justice. There must be stern enforcement of international laws to avert these kinds of activities from the source of its operation. There must be a flawless and transparent enforcement of laws by the members of the alliance or block to curb the occurrence of Cyber attacks or warfare in the future.

    Let us hope that every nation would pledge to be part of this drive and also acts in good faith.
