Employee Complacency - A Silent Killer - Organization
Employee Complacency - A Silent Killer - Organization
Complacency is the resultant of lack of inclination to surge
ahead in the path. It’s a dangerous symptom for the employees in an
organization. It halts the creative thought process in an individual and
obstructs him doing things differently. The ramifications of complacency are multifarious, not only on an individual but also on an organization.
Complacency thwarts
an individual from dreaming Big
One of the debacles of complacency is that it will dwindle the appetite for setting up bigger goals and to devise an action plan to
achieve them. The employees would feel satiated with their existing tasks,
would show no sign of any interest to learn different skills or different
processes within an organization. They would rebuke at every aspect of their
work and the management, and Organization.
It may result in resistance
to change
This kind of an approach would make them outdated in the competitive
environment as they are generally reluctant to learn new things. They would
vent their anger on new systems and indulge in discouraging employees with high
spirit to learn new things. They would display a character of pessimism towards
every aspect of their professional life. This attitude would make them laggards
in the race and fail miserably in the long run, resulting in acute distress.
They cannot scale up in the organization hierarchy and repent on their state of
affairs in the long run for their past inaction.
It depletes the
passion of an individual
A passionate personality would never nurture complacency as
he would certainly be aware of the consequences of complacency. The inner drive
of a complacent person is lacklustre, sluggish and affects the working
environment of an organization adversely.
It can be a
contagious disease and trap the fellow colleagues
The pessimists suffering from the disease of complacency can
easily contract this one to others. They would try to demoralize and derail the
positive people with their complacency approach by talking about every other
trivial limitation as opposed to helping them to potentially use the existing
resources for optimal outcomes.
It may result in under-performance and affect organization as a whole
It may result in the poor performance of an individual, that person may
not concentrate on his work which might have devastating impact on the client experience.
Thus, there is every possibility of client subscription cancellations and
ultimately affecting the earning potential of an organization.
Hence, the organization should always be cracking-down on
the complacency workers, try to change their attitude for the benefit of the individual
or organization as whole. If necessary, the organization must take disciplinary
action; possibly fire them from the job for the benefit of every other
stakeholders of the organization
