Dwindling Cricket Craze in India
Cricket in India has always been a religion and the emotions
of the people towards cricket are so immense that it cannot be separated. There
had been instances where the working middle class Indians tend to take off from
their job, watch cricket to enthral themselves. The GOD of cricket Sachin
Tendulkar was the most inducing factor for the followers to watch cricket
relentlessly in India. There was great passion and patriotism from not only
Indian cricket players but also from the entire Nation. We cannot forget the
moment of 1996 world cup, and the emotions of millions of people were frantic
post the outcome of the match against Srilanka . The verbal duel between Aamir
Sohail and Venkatesh Prasad is still lingering in the minds of millennial’s ,
that was a cracker of a match played at Bangalore. Although , India wasn't the
best of the team during that era but still the attachment to Indian cricket is
something unparalleled. Cricket had superseded every other game in the Indian
sports.
There was moments if Sachin Tendulkar got out, cricket lovers also known as the patriots of cricket tend to turn of their TV and pray to GOD for unnatural things to disrupt the match. I reckon this kind of attachment seem to non-exist now.
However, the same frenzy doesn't exist now despite India is
the most formidable team in the world toppling the mighty Australian team as
well. The new revelations such as Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and his leadership
skills have made radical changes in the performance of Indian team. There is a consistence
from all the team members be it batting, bowling or fielding and everyone is
complimenting each other for the success of Indian cricket. It’s a great sign
to see and a proud moment for the country that India has been one of the best
team on this earth.
The decline of the cricket euphoria in India is palpable as
compared to 1990’s era. The crickets seem have taken its new transformation in
the form of it commercial incarnation. There seem to be allegations of match
fixing and betting which is becoming a disgrace for the gentlemen game.
Although, cricket generates huge revenues for the system, if that surplus money
is utilized for the infrastructural facilities for other sports can be a game
changer in due course of time. That would give requisite amount of back up for
other sports persons to perform better and glorify the nation.
If the cricket is played for commercialization, cashing-in on the human emotions, its imminent and inevitable that it would loose it sanctity, perhaps, it would drift away from being the heartthrob sport in the Country.
